NDP’s Payroll Tax Will Impact Richmond School Board

The Richmond school board could be forced to make $2.2 million in cuts to the classroom, thanks to the new employer’s health tax being introduced by the NDP.

While the NDP claims this tax is only targeted at big businesses— school boards and other organizations will also be burdened with massive bills.

In Question Period today, Richmond-Steveston MLA John Yap noted how school boards did not anticipate this additional cost, and asked Education Minister Rob Fleming whether there is money in the Budget for school boards to pay the new tax.

Minister Fleming refused to confirm how school boards are expected to cover these new massive tax increases.
